I have a really simple, quick and fun DIY to give your Cinco de Mayo party cups or snack cups a bit of extra-ness today, but first let me tell you why Cinco de Mayo is doubly special in our family & why we love it so much. Not only do we get to celebrate a bit of our Mexican heritage which is really important to me, but it also happens to be my mom’s birthday. I literally feel a bit jelly that she has such a bad ass birth date… the colors, the music, the food, the noise, she’s so lucky! I’m lucky too though because I get to throw her a Mexican Fiesta every year. Every year she tells me that that is the year I’ll run out of ideas for her party theme, but every year I prove her wrong. Back to the party cups; I found the perfect paper plates on a T.J.Maxx run a few weeks ago, they resembled paper picado so I purchased the 5 packages they had to make sure I had enough for her celebration & for our homeschooling Cinco de Mayo party. I had also purchased these hot pink snack paper cups at the dollar store, but they looked plain next to the gorgeous plates, so I decided to add a tiny Paper Picado garland.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Tape or hot glue gun & glue sticks (There’s more potential for burned fingers due to the tiny sizes, so pleas use your glue gun carefully)
Here’s what you do:
1.Cut strips of tissue paper- approximately 1×2 inches
2.Fold them (down) in half
3.Take your scissors and cut (use snow flake technique) designs of your choice
4. Take your string to the cup & simply “hang” them over it
