Turmeric “golden milk” Tea is a very flavorful little drink that I have come to LOVE, so much so, that I try to drink it every night right before bedtime. It helps me wind down from my hectic days with its sweet aroma & frothy taste. This drink is the perfect “subtle” way to start incorporating healthier and beneficial alternatives to our lives if we are looking to make healthier choices with what we put in our bodies.  I first learned about this drink from an Ayurveda website I came across a long time ago, unfortunately I don’t remember the site’s address but after learning about it I did a lot more research on it and I was amazed at what I found.

Turmeric has SO many benefits it’s crazy! Turmeric contains a wide range of antioxidants, antivirals, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, antimutagenic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also loaded with many other health nutrients such as protein, dietary fiber, niacin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, zinc among many others. For these reasons, it’s been a go to drink for centuries in South Asia in aiding with improving arthritis, cancer prevention, maintaining a healthy liver, blood purifier, aiding in diabetes control and weight management to name a few. This little drink is very well deserving of its nickname “Liquid Gold”.  View Post

I have a SUPER SPICY bacon & black beans sofritas recipe for you guys today, delicious but very very spicy. You can totally alter the spicy level on this recipe, as well as alter it with more or less bacon. I can see myself making this recipe with super crispy carnitas too! Feel free to play with it & make it yours.

Who doesn’t love spicy salsa?? I don’t meat the tomato medley non-sense you eat at restaurants with chips, I mean my boys started eating that at the age of 2! I mean authentic. Mexican. Salsa. Here’s a semi-sweet yet super hot carrot habanero salsa, an all time fave of ours…enjoy with moderation(😉)

**Salsa de zanahoria y habanero**

*warning: if you suffer from heart burn please have TUMS handy after eating this sauce*

You will need:

8 oz or approx 13-15 orange habanero peppers

1/2 lb baby carrots

Cooking oil, your favorite type will do although I recommend canola oil

Salt to taste

Fill a deep sauce pan with water about halfway

Bring water to a boil and add carrots and peppers

Boil on medium/high heat for about 25 minutes or until carrots are soft

*when boiling any type of peppers leave the stems to avoid itchy throat*

Once ready, remove pan from heat and shock the carrots and peppers with ice cold water.

Remove the stems from peppers and add both carrots and peppers to your blender with 1-2 cups of canola oil depending on the desired consistency

Add in salt at your discretion.

*Please don’t blend peppers, oil and carrots right out the heat of the stove, this will cause pressure to build in your blender and the lid may pop off causing a big mess and possible burns*

Good morning loves, I want to share this amazing fat burning green smoothie with everyone trying their best to keep up with their New Years resolution. Don’t give up….WE can do it 😉

If eating healthier or becoming healthier was one of your resolutions or goals this year, I hope to make it a little bit easier by sharing some of my favorite smoothie recipes with you all throughout the year as I myself navigate my way to a healthier self. I love green smoothies because they are a tasty and a super quick way of consuming a natural, raw, healthy, vitamin and antioxidant filled meal…that’s right a meal. Consume at minimum 24-32 oz though if you plan in replacing a meal with a smoothie. They are perfect in-between snacks as well.

For this smoothie you will need:

1/2 grapefruit

2.5 cups of spinach leafs

1 stalk of celery (yes, the leaves are edible and only add to te healthy-mess of his drink)

1 green pear

1/2 of a lemon’s juice

1 tsp. Ginger

Coconut sugar (what I used) or stevia to taste if you want to skip the slightly bitter grapefruit taste.

1/2 – 1 cup water

This will make approximately 28-35 oz, I like drinking most of it first thing in the morning and saving about 9-12 oz for an in-between-meals snack.

I love this simple drink because 1. Reminds me of coffee and well…coffee.  2.It’s quick without too much hassle. 3.Did I mention it reminds me of coffee? Whip this sweet & warm cocktail up & thank me later #momsquad.

What’s YOUR favorite “Fall-iday” drink?

You will need:

Irish cream liquor

Ground cinnamon

Pumpkin spice coffee

You will want to brew your coffee, I used Pumpkin Spice coffee but you can literally use any flavored coffee you like.

Then you will add in 1-2 shots of Baileys or Irish cream flavored liquor

Top off with allspice and ground cinnamon.

You can serve this chilled or hot.
